Destroying David

November 12 – 14, 2026
Waterfront Playhouse, Mallory Square, 407 Wall Street
The Waterfront Playhouse launches its Spotlight Series with the Florida premiere of
, a solo play written by Jason Odell Williams. It runs about 75 minutes and takes the form of a private tour of Michelangelo’s David at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, led by a guide who walks the audience through the statue’s history and its surprisingly precarious physical condition. As the tour goes on, the guide’s real reason for arranging it comes into focus. The play has been described as funny, heartbreaking, and ultimately uplifting, and it’s built around the question of what art is for — why we preserve certain objects, and what they can do for us in bad moments.
The Waterfront’s production is part of the new Spotlight Series, with three performances only.
