Dial M for Murder

April 8 – 17, 2027
Waterfront Playhouse, Mallory Square, 407 Wall Street
The Waterfront’s mainstage season concludes with Dial M for Murder, Frederick Knott’s 1952 thriller in Jeffrey Hatcher’s 2022 adaptation. A husband decides his wealthy wife is worth more to him dead, and sets out to arrange the perfect murder. What follows is a cat-and-mouse game between him, his wife, her lover, and a police inspector who keeps noticing the small things that don’t add up.
Hatcher’s version, commissioned by the Old Globe in San Diego, keeps the 1950s London setting and Knott’s clockwork plotting while reshaping the central triangle and adding a few turns of its own.
The Waterfront positions it alongside Wait Until Dark and Accomplice, both audience favorites at the theatre — tightly built thrillers where the tension comes from watching people think.
