10,000 Maniacs play the Key West Theater. The band formed in Jamestown, New York in 1981 and has sold more than 10 million records, moving from the indie circuit to a central place in the alternative rock of the late 80s and early 90s.
The 1987 album In My Tribe was the breakthrough — it stayed on the charts for 77 weeks and produced “Like the Weather” and “What’s the Matter Here?” The platinum albums Blind Man’s Zoo and Our Time in Eden followed, with “Trouble Me,” “These Are Days,” and “Candy Everybody Wants.” Their MTV Unplugged set, which included their version of “Because the Night,” sold over four million copies.
Mary Ramsey leads the band today on vocals and viola, alongside founding members Jerome Augustyniak on drums, John Lombardo on guitar, Dennis Drew on keyboards, and Steven Gustafson on bass, with Ben Medina on guitar. The band marked its 45th anniversary in 2026 with the Candy Everybody Wants box set covering their Elektra years, and their first album of new material in over a decade.
