Key West is a wonderful place to visit in the summertime. Bright blue skies, clear turquoise water and white sands await you on the many beaches in and around Key West. But relaxing on the beach is far from the only activity in Key West. The summers here are also bustling with activities and attractions for everyone in the family, letting you experience the bright, vibrant culture of the Keys.
Key West Beaches
Of course, relaxing at the beach and soaking up some rays will always be one of the top attractions in Key West. With turquoise waters around you, it’s easy to see why our beaches bring visitors from all over the world. These are some of the best beaches on our island:
Fort Zachary Taylor - Often referred to as Key West’s best beach, Fort Zachary Taylor is in an 87 acre park with picnic tables, grills and even a small cafe for snacks. Located at the Truman Annex the fort is an authentic Civil War fort with real cannons. Enjoy a guided tour of the fort, or take advantage of the perfect fishing and snorkeling spots located along the beautiful sandy beach.
Smathers Beach - Located on the south side of the island on South Rosevest Boulevard Smathers beach is Key West’s largest beach on a half mile strip of warm and soft sand. Whether you want to rent a beach chair and relax or enjoy the available watersports rentals, this is the beach for you. From locals to spring breakers, Smathers Beach is known for fun in the sun and also a pet-friendly beach!
Higgs Beach - With a long wooden pier for soaking in the ocean views and sun rays, Higgs beach is a relaxed and casual slice of island life. With a playground for the kids, a full service restaurant and even a dog park for Fido, you’re sure to enjoy your visit to HIggs Beach.
Bahia Honda - Bahia Honda State Park is home to Calusa Beach and Sandspur Beach that attract visitors with their crystal clear shallow waters set against miles of white sands and large pine trees. This popular state park offers swimming, kayaking, snorkeling and of course sunbathing.
Dry Tortugas - Take the Yankee Freedom III, the official ferry to the well known Dry Tortugas National Park and enjoy the seven small islands that make this eco-attraction like no other. With self-guided and guided tours of historic Fort Jefferson, snorkeling, camping and beaches, the whole family will find something to enjoy among these historic islands.

The waters surrounding Key West and the Florida Keys are home to some of the worlds best sportfishing. With chartered tours, and fishing tournaments galore, the fisherman in your group will be right at home here. These are some of our favorite fishing tournaments you can partake in:
Nick Sheahan Dolphin Rodeo - benefitting the Nick Sheahan Scholarship Foundation, enjoy this dolphin focused fishing tournament while giving back to the community.
Del Brown Permit Tournament - Dedicated to the late Del Brown, famous for making permit fishing with a fly rod so popular, this Permit Tournament is an annual event in July and makes a yearly contribution to the Bonefish Tarpon Trust.
