Description

NEW UNIT!

The uniqueness of Campbell Eyebrow House starts with its Classical Revival "eyebrow" styling, an iconic gable roof creating an awning over top floor windows. The pleasure of Campbell Eyebrow House comes from its ideal location on the island, its verdant garden setting, its lux pool and pool oasis, its dedicated parking, its having everything you might want right at hand. Sit on the front porch of this one-bedroom, two full bath cottage overlooking Campbell Courtyard compound and congratulate yourself on finding this gated-community gem for your perfect escape to paradise.

If you are like most visitors, you'll fall in love with the Monaco pool and not waste too much time before you decide to swim or float, gazing up at puffy white cumulus or a squadron of pelicans flying over in formation. Afterward, sun yourself on one of the chaise loungers. When you want shade, move to the table and chairs on the upper deck or the chairs on your own covered front porch.

From the very hospitable front porch, it's only a few steps through the palm-etched glass front door to discover the two-story interior. To the right is an inviting bar area with a table and four chairs. Sit here for a glass of wine or a frosty lemonade with mint. Or move over to the couch to the left to be even comfier. An acrylic portrait of The Chardonnay Queen with her chicken legs crossed reminds you that you are in the kingdom of Key West's gypsy birds. Two windows here infuse the area with plenty of light and sparkle, and a desk provides computer or writing space should you need it.

Looking from here straight through the open floor plan, you can see the kitchen, the entertainment viewing room, and on to a private outside patio. The kitchen begins with a small counter overhang and two woven reed stools providing an ideal place to drink a coffee or tea. The kitchen itself is compact, which makes any kind of meal prep ever so easy. Cupboards above and below provide plenty of space for cooking and eating accoutrements while the stainless appliances make the technical part a snap. A reverse osmosis filtration system guarantees the best drinking water. A nearby dining table and chairs make a perfect place to eat a gourmet meal, heated-up leftovers from dinner out the night before, or a hot breakfast or lunch special from Fausto's deli which is just a block away. Next to the kitchen is the first-floor full bath with a large shower that is very convenient after a swim.

A unique feature is a paneled wood barn door in a striking pattern that serves as a partition and as an art accent all in one. The second side of the deco door faces a viewing room that is all set up for comfort-two lounge chairs whose placement is perfect for viewing your fav movie or TV series on the opposite wall while snacking on your favorite appetizer and beverage. In addition, the home offers two other TVs. Of course, there's also AC, stereo, and cable.

Beyond this room, through sliding glass doors, is the outside deck enclosed by a tall picket fence that supplies privacy and beauty. Here you'll find a gas BBQ for when you feel like grilling. Then conveniently steps away is a dining table with seating for six. If you gaze up from here, you can enjoy a turquoise market umbrella the color of the Gulf of Mexico. There is assigned off street parking for one mid size or smaller car. (If your vehicle is too large to park in the space (vehicles must be less than 16 ft.) you will have to find on street parking.)

Back inside and up a flight of stairs with a classic deco banister is the master bedroom and second full bath. The color scheme here is typically island in cloud white and vibrant lime green. The bed is king-size and beckons with the promise of great comfort. A wall of windows at one end and ceiling skylight guarantee plenty of ambient light when you want it and easy shading for when you don't. Two chests of drawers and closet space provide nicely for your foldable and hanging items. Night tables, an orange settee bench, and a TV complete the room and make it ideal for recharging at night, so you're well-rested for fun-filled days exploring what the island has to offer.

The best way to find out what the Southernmost City has to offer is to slip on your flip-flops and head out on foot or bicycle, the favored way to get around. Or if self-propulsion isn't appealing, you can rent a golf cart or scooter or take the Duval Loop city bus that goes right by. Down a few blocks to the right is the Historic Seaport and Harbor Walk. Follow the wooden boardwalk along the Gulf of Mexico to find historic tall ships offering day and sunset cruises or take an all-day ferry excursion to the Dry Tortugas. If you're interested in watersports, there are all kinds-diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, and jet skiing, to name a few. If you get hungry, a dozen or so restaurants of varying levels of informality ring the harbor. Maybe sit under a banyan tree filled with tiny white lights while you eat a fresh Mahi sandwich at Schooner Wharf and listen to local musicians.

But that's only a segment of what there is to see and do. Walk a couple of blocks to Duval Street to check out tours, museums, shopping, more restaurants, more bars, and the Key West Aquarium, where you can pet a shark if you dare. Don't miss the daily sunset celebration at Mallory Square, where locals and visitors alike gather to applaud as the sun sinks into the horizon. Then hang around for the party as artists and street performers entertain the crowd with dancing circus cats, fire jugglers, fortune tellers, and vendors selling handmade items.

Maybe your taste runs more towards the arts. If so, Key West is the right place for music, movies, plays, art galleries, lectures, and more. If you like beaches, one local's favorite is Fort Zachery Taylor, where you can rent chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment. Bathrooms, showers, a snack bar, and picnic tables are also available. Or maybe you'll decide to skip the beach to explore the adjacent Civil War-era fort, designated a National Historic Landmark.

To know what's going on from day to day, check out Historic Hideaways' informative Events website page. Other information on the current music scene, movies, plays, gallery openings, and charitable events can be found at milezerokeywest.com (calendar section) or in the print publication Paradise, available at various locations around town every Thursday.
