Description

It's all about location: in this case, a dream vacation location in the heart of Old Town Key West. Duval Street Suite is a two-bedroom, two-full-bath townhouse in a small rooftop community overlooking the island's main artery for fun and entertainment.

From your private and expansive Bahamian-style wraparound balcony, you can sit back in a comfortable Adirondack chair, enjoy a beverage, and take in the day or evening scene below. Duval Street hosts colorful parades, conch train tours, pedicabs, locals, tourists, the rich and famous, kids headed for ice cream at Flamingo Crossing, and sun worshipers headed for the beach. When you've enjoyed watching enough of the goings-on for one sitting, disappear into the residence through any of six French doors. On the front side, four doors open into the living room; on the left side, one door opens into one of the baths; on the right side, one opens into the guest bedroom.

With all four glass doors flung open to the balcony, the living/dining area is flooded with gentle light and tropical cross breezes. Even with the doors closed, this great room is delightfully open and airy thanks to an impressive cathedral ceiling. The lovely stone tile floors add elegance and warmth to the pallet of colors selected for the furniture and accents. A Casablanca-style ceiling whispers above. Below a deep-seated sofa offers comfort, firm support, and the option to convert into an extra queen bed. Flanking the couch are end tables with reading lamps. Close at hand, a wood and glass coffee table makes a convenient resting place for your guidebook or beverage. A comfy arm chair and a TV media chest with four roomy storage drawers complete the living room setting. Wireless high-speed internet, cable, stereo, and DVD player are at your fingertips when you want them.

To the right is the dining area with an elegant glass-top table and six high-back chairs. Here and throughout the residence, cloud white walls make the perfect background for interesting and colorful art work chosen to embellish the ambience. To the left of the dining room is an updated kitchen with handsome blond cabinetry above and below offering plenty of storage space. The room is accented with white tiles and contemporary black appliances. All cooking and serving pieces are provided right down to the corkscrew. One end of the kitchen forms a convenient bar/pass-through to the dining area.

Behind the kitchen is the charming front door entry hall with a colorful Welcome sign and table for your keys and other paraphernalia. To the right is what at first looks like a half bath, and it can function that way. Yet immediately around the corner is a generous shower. Not only is this ever-so-convenient setup accessible from the entry hall but also through a door opening into the guest bedroom. The room has a queen bed guaranteed to yield a very restful sleep. Side tables with lamps, a ceiling fan, and a walk-in closet big enough for a whole wardrobe of vacation wear are among the amenities. Again you have the option to open a set of balcony doors to let the incomparable climate and beauty in.

Sometimes a configuration just makes you feel good and that's certainly true of the master suite at Duval Street. It's in a private loft up highly polished stairs to the left of the living room. Here you'll find a king bed with en suite full bath, generous walk-in closet, and a dresser for your foldable items. And there's a surprise addition-a very private balcony where you can drink your morning latte, read the paper, or sun yourself in as little attire as you choose. No one else can see.

When you've spent time on your balcony and checked out the rest of your residence, perhaps it's time to explore Duval Street in person. A right turn will head you towards the shores of the Atlantic and a left turn will head you towards the Gulf of Mexico. In between are all the things that make the Conch Republic so famous: beaches, tours, museums, shopping, over two hundred restaurants, bars, and the Key West Aquarium where you can pet a shark if you dare. Or maybe you'd prefer to have your picture taken at the Southernmost Point buoy or pose with a parrot perched on your head. If the arts interest you, you've come to the right town for music, movies, plays, art galleries, lectures, artists in residence, and more. Don't miss the sunset celebration at Mallory Square or the opportunities for all kinds of water sports along the Historic Seaport boardwalk.

Visit the beach at Ft. Taylor State Park and claim your spot in the coral sand with a rented umbrella and chaise lounge or just by stretching out your colorful beach towel and plopping down. Maybe snorkel up close and personal with stingrays and tropical fish. When you get hungry or thirsty, a beach concession stand serves beer, food, and snacks. Eat on the deck under an umbrella overlooking the beach. Or bring your own food to enjoy at one of the picnic tables tucked in among shade trees. There are grills, washrooms, changing rooms, outdoor showers, and breathtaking sunsets. Or, down the street from the townhome, day passes are offered for the pool at Southernmost House. (Subject to change.)

To know what's going on from day to day, check out Historic Hideaways' informative Area Guide/Events page at http://www.historichideaways.com/key-west-events/. Other information on the current music scene, movies, plays, gallery openings, and charitable events can be found at milezerokeywest.com (calendar section) or in the print publication Paradise, which is available at various locations around town every Thursday.

"A place to watch the world go by"

Loved the location, about equal distant from everything... Liked La te da for nice dining, and the ice cream shop across the street...

"Great location; made the stay easy"

4 of 5

A group of friends and I stayed here for a wedding and it was great-- we really enjoyed it. Right across the street from where you check in and a parking spot is included-- they made it all very easy. All 3 beds (we used both bedrooms + the pullout couch) were clean, the bathrooms were clean, the AC central air worked well, and we didn't see any bugs at all inside (unlike some of our friends who stayed elsewhere)! While the suite is not brand new, the kitchen has been updated and most things you need are available to you (washer/dryer, dishwasher, blow dryer, iron, etc). The wrap around porch was so fun to sit out on with a beer and people watch, but it's far enough down Duval St that it's not super loud/right next to the bars.Would definitely stay again!

"Condo on Duval St"

4 of 5

Great location, right on Duval St but far enough away from Malory Sq not to be overwhelmed with late night party noises. Loved the wrap around balcony, condo immenities. Two complaints....rental agreement gave the impression the property had a pool - no pool and the A/C unit was not big/powerful enough to cool the unit properly in the Florida summer heat. I would book again but only if I was visiting in the cooler months or a new A/C unit was installed.

"Awesome!"

It was great. Perfect location, great view. Our family had a wonderful, relaxing week. Great restaurants with in walking distance. We rented bikes close by, and rode up Duval St.

"The perfect way to really experience Duval Street day and night!"

4 of 5

My sister and I stayed here for the first half of March and had a marvelous time! We made a lot of use out of the large wrap around breezy balcony. Breakfast to overlook the quiet morning activity, mid day cocktails to experience the more hopping activity of visitors coming and going along the street, and many many dinners on the balcony entertaining friends and enjoying the nightlife and chearing Chapman on his post sunset ride once up and down the street with his upbeat music pumping! But step inside of the spacious condo, close the doors and quiet descends. Honestly, I was a bit worried that it would be difficult to sleep while staying on Duval Street, but none of the street noise filtered into the condo. You may, however, hear the comings and goings of your neighbors so do expect some of that throughout the night. Bring a pair of earplugs, our play a white noise app on your iPhone or iPad and you'll be good to good especially if you find yourself there during spring break or some other more popping time of year. Designated parking space, bike rack, close proximity to Zach Taylor State Park, the cruise ship pier, Faustos on Fleming for provisions, and La to da over and a cross the street is perfect for a cocktail or dinner at the bar. It is an experience that we will cherish for many years to come!

"Christmas 2015"

4 of 5

Enjoyed staying here. It says 6 people, but the 3rd couple is out in the open. Really need a way to make that a little more private. Otherwise, this is really nice.

"Convenient and Fun"

We had a blast on our trip. Historic Hideaways made our late check-in very convenient. The house was more than adequate for our needs. We are already planning on returning next year.

"Perfect Location, accommodation, and view!"

We loved the wrap around porch for relaxing, entertaining and people watching. Historic Hideaways was very helpful In making some suggestions where the whole family would enjoy the day!

"Enjoyed Our Stay"

4 of 5

Service was great. Location of the home was next to a bar so late night music and loud bar patrons was something we had to get used to. As for the rental, could use some updating but we were happy with it. The balcony was a plus during the day but was very noisy once the bar started crowd stated to get going. Larger screen TV's would be a nice addition to the unit. Will use Historic Hideaways again. Thank you for the good time.

"Great Location, Great Condo, Wonderful balcony! Liv'n the life!"

5 of 5

I went with my husband, our 16 & 6 year old sons and we even took my brother so he could watch the youngest so we could go out a few nights - so there was 5 of us (from Ohio). I had been to Key West ten years ago, it everyone elses first time. I had not stayed on Duval before, but knew that was the place to be! So we chose this unit. The pictures give a great sense of the place - but being there is quite an experience... ecpecially the wonderful wrap around porch. It's above a "store" (though there was no store in operation under our apartment at the time) - so being on the porch above allows you to take in the scenery without really being noticed. It was interesting to people watch and be able to carry on your own conversations with privacy (it was like no one knew we were up there - so you're not bothered). It's was nice to just relax... my 6 year old said it best... he went out on the first day, sat in a chair and said "ahhhhh, this is liv'n the life!" - we will never forget that... everytime he wanted to go out he would ask.. "does anyone want to go live the life with me?" too cute. It was off the street so we felt safe allowing the kids to sit out there alone (plus we could see through all the beautiful doors from the living room area). We kept the bedroom on the main floor with the adjoining shower and bathroom (for privacy) and the two boys took the loft area - huge king size bed - they loved it up there! On the loft/2nd level there is a full bath and Sun porch - the one day we didn't go to the beach I was able to sunbath out there with privacy! I was in my only little world (with a drink and some tunes - and a squirt bottle with cold water to spray myself when I got too hot). It's not a big area, but walls on all sides and the doors, with blinds, into the loft bedroom gave it great privacy. The loft area is huge as well as the living room area. My brother slept on a roll away bed they had in a closet - though he had originally planned to sleep on their fold out couch. The washer and dryer are not big (bottom washer, top dryer) but we were able to keep up with washing towels, etc. Access to the apartment was very secure. We needed a key to get into the main building towards the back of the building, go up some enclosed stairs, then had a key to our unit. We felt very safe - especially being on an upper level the way we were - not right on the street. We were near many shops, bars, and restaurants - but on the quieter end of Duval. We were closest to the "Southernmost Point" area... about a 10 minute walk. My 16 year old loved it here and Key West in general! There was a Christmas / Knick Knack store with unique items below the other side of the building, that we visited - super nice older couple. There was a coffee shop about a block away we would get coffee from about every morning (Moka Cafe, I believe). There was a nice kitchen with everything you'd need - to use. We ate out most nights but did make a point to cook a few breakfasts and one dinner there. Plenty of room to sit at the dining room table together (something we don't get an opportunity to do much of at home). With this property we were able to use their "pass" to the State Parks. This gave us free entry into the Ft Zachery Beach, though we drove to Bahia Honda State Park Beach in Big Pine Key most days (about 30-40 minutes away). This gave us free entry we only had to pay a Monroe County surcharge tax of .50cents per person - no biggie. The owners were great to work with. We plan to come back - my boys are hooked and we all loved this place and the location!

"Great Location - Awesome Porch"

4 of 5

We recently stayed at this condo for 5 nights. Really enjoyed the porch. Took our 1 year old daughter and the inlaws, all had a great time. Location was great, only 3 blocks from Ocean and a great breakfast place to the east. To the west you have all of Duval street in front of you. This is the "quieter" end of Duval although the bar next door did have some loud music but it never kept anyone awake. Having the dedicated parking spot was great but we mainly walked everywhere. Food in Key West is amazing. Would stay here again. The kitchen lacked some cooking utensils, dishwasher and washer/dryer were pretty inefficient and didn't clean well.

-M W on 06/21/2014

"Location location!"

Loved the people watching... didn't plan it but actually became a part of train tour, coffee and jammies included!!!Nothing but a good experience with historic hideaways. I would suggest updating the kitchen cooking supplies but overall a great place to stay.
