Description

The Seaport Oasis home, built in 1898 and completely refurbished, offers you a stylish vacation indoors and out. Inside you'll find two stories with three queen bedrooms and three full baths. Outside you have a very private deck with heated dipping pool surrounded by elegant woven patio furniture, suspended linen grommet panels, and tropical foliage. The third fabulous component of this property is its location: two blocks from Duval and two blocks from the Historic Seaport, both must-explore areas highlighted in every Key West guidebook. Postcards home to your friends will need only one word to describe your stay: "Awesome!"

The curb view of Seaport Oasis shows an inviting front porch and second-story balcony, both perfect places to relax and take in your neighborhood. In contrast to the classic white balustrades, ocean blue shutters highlight three access doors above and below. One first-floor entrance opens on a living room flooded with light from two windows and French doors leading to the back deck. A Florida ceiling fan adds illumination, air circulation, and tropical ambience to the room, while an oriental area carpet enhances the highly polished hardwood floors with a dash of color. Bright accent pillows cover the deep-seated, powder-sand canvas couch and love seat. A large-screen TV is perfectly positioned for easy viewing from this comfy seating. Of course there's cable, high-speed Internet, a DVD player, and a stereo system. A coffee table and end tables offer plenty of room for the book or magazine you're reading or for beverages and snacks you might enjoy in this delightful room. Contemporary art decorates the walls.

The French doors open from the living room onto a deck that provides the ultimate in outdoor living. A pass-through from the kitchen to poolside makes it easy to serve drinks and appetizers or a whole meal alfresco. Maybe you'll decide to fire up the grill for steak or fresh-caught mahi. Or maybe you'll find the pristine temperature-controlled cocktail pool more enticing than food. When you're ready to lounge outside, a large Monaco-style sectional with pillows stands ready along two sides of the pool. Panels of raw linen attached by grommets from a metal bar surround the entire natural wood decking to enhance privacy. When tropical breezes lightly rustle the linen, you get glimpses of verdant palms and other plantings that fill in behind it.

Next to the outside deck and pool, you'll discover a farmhouse kitchen set up beautifully as a hub for your at-home activities. This one nicely accommodates food preparation, guest entertainment, family meals, and gadget storage. It features an eat-at island with stools, a farmhouse sink, sleek stainless appliances, and custom cabinets and countertops. A hanging gourmet pot rack centered in the room organizes cookware and lends an impressive, almost sculptural elegance to the space.

Off the kitchen is an unexpectedly spacious laundry/storage room and wine refrigerator. Next in the floor plan comes the first of the three full baths, this one conveniently located for the living room, pool area, and kitchen. It is also for the first of three queen bedrooms. The latter offers a charming, comfy four-poster bed illuminated by natural light from a window. Its bright color pallet varies yellows and oranges, no doubt inspired by Key West's sun-drenched weather. A dark wood dresser hosts a flat-screen TV that's just right for viewing from bed. The door on one wall leads to the front porch should you decide to sit out for your morning coffee.

The hallway and stairs that take up the rest of the first floor lead up to two more queen bedrooms and full baths. From the second-floor landing, you can see down the stairs and out the front door to the porch and street beyond. You can also see out the second-floor door to the upper balcony and a tree canopy that reflects the openness, calm, and spaciousness of this property.

One second-floor bedroom is decorated whimsically with blue walls, wall-mounted coat hooks, a retro hula girl lamp, ceiling fan, chest of drawers, rattan full-length mirror, and other colorful touches. The other bedroom is more formal with butternut walls and dark wood furnishings. The bed there has a slatted headboard with small tables and lamps on either side. Two dressers provide ample storage while the overhead fan circulates air and adds tropical ambience. Another flat-screen provides for cozy TV watching from under the covers. Both baths on this floor feature walk-in showers. And if you're in a more leisurely, more traditional mood, you can soak in a refurbished claw-foot tub.

Once you step outside Seaport Oasis, fabulous Duval Street is just steps away. There you'll find plenty of entertainment: tours, museums, shopping, over two hundred restaurants, and bars. Or stroll several blocks to the Historic Seaport and Harbor Walk. Follow the wooden boardwalk along the Gulf of Mexico to find historic tall ships offering day and sunset cruises or take an all-day ferry excursion to the Dry Tortugas. If you're interested in watersports, you'll find diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, and jet skiing close at hand. If you get hungry, numerous restaurants ranging from casual to classy ring the harbor.

Between the Gulf and the Atlantic, check out the beaches, a lighthouse where you can climb eighty-eight steps to get a bird's eye view of the island, drag shows, cigar dens, and the not-to-be-missed sunset celebration every evening at Mallory Square. Perhaps check out the island's vibrant art and culture scene with live music, lectures, plays, movies, art galleries, and artist talks.
